A "cookie" is a small amount of information that a Web site copies to your hard disk. A cookie can help a Web site complete your transaction or identify you the next time you visit.
To turn on your cookies in Netscape, go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced. Click on the button for "Accept all cookies."
Cookies are generally accepted by default in Internet Explorer. If you use IE 4.0, verify your settings by selecting View/Options/Advanced. Use the right-side scroll bar until you see the yellow exclamation point and the word "cookies." You will see three options: always (accept cookies), prompt (before accepting cookies) or disable (don't accept cookies). Make your selection.
If you use IE 5.0 or higher, select Tools/Internet Options/Security. Click on "custom level" near the bottom. Scroll down until you see "cookies." There are two different types -- one stays on your computer indefinitely and one is deleted after you close IE. Select the one you want and then select your option: disable, enable and prompt.
