Setup For Printing Using Windows 95 or 98
Part 1 - Capturing printer output to selected local printer
This is not necessary if you have a printer attached locally to your workstation.
Part 2 - Create a c:\temp folder
Part 3 - Set your run controls to print in PeopleSoft
Part 4 - Print a student's class schedule
Part 1 - Capturing printer output to selected local printer
- Click on Start, Settings, Printers. This will bring up the Printers window.
- Using your right-mouse button, click on the printer and make sure that there is a check mark on Set as Default. If the check mark is missing, then follow the same procedure on other printers till you locate the default one.
- From the same menu, choose the last option which is Properties.

- The Properties window for your selected printer will appear.
- Click on the Details tab.
- Under Print to the following port: if the entire box is highlighted as in the illustration, then proceed to step 10. Otherwise, click anywhere in the box. Then using the left arrow key on your keyboard move to very beginning of the line. Release the arrow key. Now proceed to step 7.
- Press and hold the Shift key. Using the right-arrow key, move the cursor to the right end of the text one character at a time. This will eventually highlight all the text inside the box. (Note that the printer path could actually be longer than the visible space.)
Caution: Do not press any alphabet or number key while the box is highlighted. Doing so will cause all text in the box to disappear. However if this does happen, do not panic. You can get your original settings back by clicking the small pull down arrow next to the box and clicking on the first item from that menu.
- With the entire text now highlighted, release the Shift and right-arrow keys.
- While holding down the Ctrl key, press 'c' to copy the entire text to memory.

- Using the left-mouse button, click on the Capture Printer Port button. The Capture Printer Port window will appear.
- Under Device, make sure it is set for LPT1.
- Click on the space specified for Path.
- With the cursor inside the Path box, press and hold Shift then hit Insert. This should paste the network path of your printer in the box.
- Click on Reconnect at logon.
- Click OK to close the Capture Printer Port window.
- Click OK to close the printer properties window.

Part 2 - Create a c:\temp folder
- Click on Start, Run.
- In the Open: box, type command /c md c:\temp then click OK.
Part 3 - Set your run controls to print in PeopleSoft
- Go into PeopleSoft Production (double-click on the PeopleSoft Production Icon or Start People Tools from the Desktop Icon or Start | Programs | PeopleSoft SA7.60 | People Tools)
- Login using your production user ID (usually the same as your groupwise ID and password
- Select Edit | Preferences | Run Control… from the People Tools menu
- Select your Operator ID (same as user ID from the list (see below)
- Then click the Edit button

- In the Edit Run Control Dialog select Printer in the Run Output grouping
- If lpt1 isn't displayed in the Printer/File line type it in
- Click OK on the Edit Run Control dialog box to save the change
- Click OK again on the Edit Run Controls Operator List dialog box to close the dialog

Part 4 - Print a student's class schedule
- Select Go | Manage Student Records | Manage Academic Records… from the People Tools menu
- Select Inquire | Enrollment Summary | Enrollment Summary
- Select the student to bring up the Enrollment Summary Screen
- Click on the print button in the upper right hand corner of the screen
- The report titled "STUDY LIST" should print on your default Windows printer.
