Delta 2006 News - September 12, 2001 Career Center capitalizes on PeopleSoft functionality The Career Center recently unveiled two significant new online services for students that draw on the data in and functionality of PeopleSoft. "We’re operating with much greater efficiency than with the previous methods," says Carol Montgomery, associate vice president, Alumni and Career Networks. "It was a great bonus for us." The student employment Web site allows students to view on-campus jobs, apply for as many as they want and get feedback if they are selected for an interview. Supervisors can view all applications online, determine who to interview and contact the students easily. The system draws on PeopleSoft for authentication, student IDs and department information as well as supervisor access. "The student employment system would not be possible without PeopleSoft. It allowed us to streamline the system and handle it online versus using a cumbersome paper system," she says. Although the Career Center’s third-party online placement software could function without PeopleSoft, the Center was able to pre-populate the database with information about currently enrolled students, eliminating an enormous amount of data entry. Students use the system to view jobs online, create and post their resumes, find out about and sign up for interviews, and search for a mentor. "It would have greatly increased the labor if we had to hand-input thousands of students into the system," she says. "In addition, we can now easily communicate with students using their preferred email addresses." Students can also enroll in the Career Center’s credit-based internships (part of the Liberal Studies program) through Campus Connection, replacing the "ridiculously cumbersome" paper process. |
