Better communication, PeopleSoft integration gets part-timers on the payroll

It once was a fall ritual as predictable as the turning of the leaves - new part-time faculty members and student workers would arrive at DePaul in droves, then descend on Payroll demanding to know why they weren't getting paid.

But no more.

"We've had very few complaints, so I believe it's going well," said Geri Foskett, manager, Payroll. "The problems that happened in previous years did not happen this year. The paperwork is coming in well and on time."

Part of the success stems from improved communications, including training managers how to complete forms and regular e-mail reminders about deadlines that allow enough time for paperwork to be completed.

"The Career Center is doing a great job explaining to students what they need to submit and what may be missing," says Foskett, a process enhanced by the checklist function in PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft also centralizes information in one place, helping department managers as well as staff from Human Resources, Payroll and the Career Center, says Maureen Maher, assistant director, Student Employment.

"PeopleSoft is more readily available and contains much more detail than the previous systems. The financials are connected to other systems, like enrollment," she says. "Now we're not duplicating information between systems, and everyone involved in the process can see what's going on."
